In December 2023, my photograph An Alevi Family Portrait in the Wooden House received an Honorable Mention in the Professional Photojournalism category of the reFocus Awards Black & White Photo Contest. On 12 December 2023, I received the official notification from the reFocus Awards team congratulating me on the distinction. The message noted that the competition had attracted an outstanding pool of submitted images and that the judging process had been particularly difficult. This recognition was especially meaningful to me as the awarded photograph belongs to my long-term documentary work focusing on people, communities and everyday life. The photograph, portraying an Alevi family together in their wooden house, reflects the kind of intimate encounters and human stories that have remained at the center of my photographic practice for many years.
