Ahrweiler Viticulture And Wine Festival- 22.Sept.2019

Germany

Wine is one of the oldest spirits in human history. I had the chance to participate in the wine festival celebration after the vintage in Ahrweiler in the Rhine Valley, where Germany's finest wines are produced.

The preserved half-timbered houses in the center of Ahrweiler are surrounded by medieval city walls. Built in the 13th century, the medieval city walls were almost completely preserved with its moats, gates and towers.

Ahrweiler is one of the northernmost wine regions of Germany. The slopes of the city consist of vineyards of wine. Ahrweiler wines are mostly red wines made from the local Spätburgunder and Frühburgunder. Wine production and trade in Ahrweiler has been going on for over 1000 years. There are many family businesses in the city that deal with grapes and wine. In September, a traditional annual wine festival is held in Ahrweiler, where the "Wine Queen" is chosen. This is Ahr's largest and oldest festival.
