The CHP (RPP) rally held at Taksim Square, Istanbul on June 3, 1977.
Despite the warning of a possible assassination attempt against then-prime
minister and CHP President Bülent Ecevit, the rally took place and, with
the participation of nearly 500 thousand people, it was recorded as the
most highly participated and impassioned rally in the history of CHP.
Although a month had passed since the May 1st massacre, I arrived from
Ankara the same day upon hearing the assassination warning. Once again,
at the same square, I photographed one of the important days of Turkish
history. The army had serious protection against the assassination
attempt and the rally ended without any problems.
